What matters to you?
Just as we know what we really believe by watching how we act, we might be able to tell what matters to us by looking at the spaces we live in.
What fills my space? My office (read: spare bedroom) is full of books. The ones out for reading right now are Harry Potter, C.S. Lewis’ Surprised by Joy, Praxis exam study guides, my Bible, a business-building workbook, and a stack of unread books from a trip to the indie bookstore. Running shoes are on the floor under my desk and a foam roller is not far away. My second bookshelf is full of art and crafting supplies: my sewing machine, paints, and letter-writing stationery. I have a calendar and a to-be-read list on my wall. A recent addition to this room is a record-player I received for a birthday.
This is me. I love creating, reading, writing, good music, and running. I’m working on my business but I’m also thinking about how I could work for consistent pay (hence the Praxis guides). I like all of these things within reach.
What’s in your space? What does it say about what matters to you? Hit reply and let me know one thing you discovered.
With love,
Amy
p.s. What I’m Reading
This past week I finished Between the World and Me, by Ta-Nehisi Coates. In it, Coates writes a letter to his son about what it has meant to him to be Black in America. It’s a masterpiece of prose in heart and thought. I don’t have adequate words for what it means to read this work. But this is what I’ve been thinking about tidying this month: the two most basic elements of tidying are to sort and discard. This is all well and good in the discussion of home goods, but may we never sort and discard people. Amen.
