Today I worked for my father-in-law on the family hay and grain farm. I wish I had bothered to take a picture of my hands and arms and clothes before I took a shower, but I’m sure you can use your imagination: sweat, dust, hay, dirt, rust.
Today I:
picked bad grass out of a field of good grass (Italian rye spreads fast and is not the orchard grass hay customers want in their bales)
helped load square bales onto a trailer
helped change the rakes on a hay rake
I need to tell you about the difference between the two usages of "help" above. Helping with hay I did better than expected, helping stack a little less than half the load before moving to throwing hay up on the trailer for L to stack. There was sweat and also strength.
As for the hay rake... I was allowed to try the impact wrench but was soon relegated to tapping a hammer to take the bolts out after the nuts were removed. I like to think I helped speed up the process a little bit but I'm not 100% sure.
Both were learning experiences to be sure.
Today I felt:
Strong. Tired.
Tomorrow I want to:
I want to work on the scrap quilt. Get out my scrap fabric and figure out what I have. Pick/make a pattern. If that hasn't worn me out, start cutting fabric.
Of course I want to keep working on the Friendship DB but I want to see how I feel before spending any large chunk of time on a screen.
There may be a nap. It's going to rain all day so there will be tea and candles and open windows (don't you love listening to the rain?) and maybe there will be baking...
