The end of this week marks two months of my sabbatical. This month really flew by —and working in the office in April feels a world away.
Something I haven’t written about is how much I’ve scrolled this month — Instagram is my dopamine hit of choice — and I can tell, not just from the hours I’ve spent on the screen but from the way I’m less engaged with my project work and daily life. Of course, I’m always quick to blame the hormonal cycles for anything, but the fact is that luteal phase doesn’t cause scrolling, it multiplies the dead-feel effects of it. I’m not sure what if anything I’m going to do about it yet — is it worth finally quitting cold turkey? How will I keep up with my beloved cross country friends who I only see on the screen? Are the effects as bad as I make it out to be? Something I’m thinking about.
Now, yesterday and a weekly recap for you:
Yesterday…
I walked two miles, tidied the kitchen, worked on the scrap quilt, and assembled a cake. I woke up so stiff — the two-day effect off of my track workout paired with spending all of Wednesday in the heat — the walk was essential.
I finished my quilt top! That means I put together all the quilt-y pieces. I still need to sew the backing piece (and decide which fabric to use… probably the white/grey that is in the top) and the batting piece and sandwich it together. I switched up the pattern just a bit from what I thought I would do and I how its turned out.
I made a German chocolate cake, sort of — I assembled it in a trifle dish so it wouldn’t fall apart and I skipped the garnish. I don’t like cherries myself, but I was told it was pretty good. The chocolate sponge was dry but the filling and the whipped cream helped.
Yesterday I felt good. I did lots on my list. I skipped the job boards except to write a follow-up email to two employers, and I left foam rolling until the very last and only did it for a few minutes.
Today…
I have 40 minutes until I am leaving for an ambitious run, and after that I am going to sound-bath yoga. We are trying to leave for the river early this afternoon, so after yoga it will be shower, pack, and go grab the toddler. It’s our first weekend taking out the new-to-us beach catamaran — wish us luck! Stories and pictures next week.
