Today I very nearly skipped out on Real Lunch. I had a doctor’s appointment in late morning and instead of coming home and having lunch while I was hungry, I went to a cafe and got a mocha. When I came home I couldn’t be bothered to pull together lunch, but luckily I had some leftover salad from the weekend that hadn’t yet gone out and took no prep; then I had a lemon-lavender-poppy-seed muffin and a cup of Earl Grey tea. I’m currently munching on some pistachios.
I’m feeling unbalanced generally — C and I have been sleeping in past when E leaves for work, and I’ve been staying up late doing the reading and knitting (and let’s be honest, the scrolling) that I won’t let myself do during the week day. I feel good about planning and cooking dinners and having fruit and vegetables in the house, but still found myself ordering a brisket, mac-and-cheese, and fried-onion sandwich for dinner last night. It was a here-for-a-good-time-not-a-long-time kind of meal.
Anyway. Over the weekend we had a lovely friend brunch on Saturday and a generally relaxing Father’s Day drawing in the driveway with sidewalk chalk, doing a bit of yard work, going for a hike and the aforementioned dinner out.
Today I:
Applied to a local “Project Specialist” position
Went to the doctor’s appt
Had a mocha and read for half an hour at the local coffee shop
Started cleaning out my office in a ploy for future productivity:
Recycled boxes and loose papers
Rearranged the bookshelf which had been in disarray since ye toddler pulled them down probably 8 months ago and they were only hastily reshelved
Discarded unloved books and created a (rainbow!) TBR shelf
Went through about two years of accumulated Papers to sort and shred
I’m going to do my Morning Pages before I go pick up the bean. For one, this is the one commitment besides Real Lunch and exercise that I wanted to keep during this time. Between writing and exercise I’ll take this one, although I can feel that exercise would do me just as much if not more good. I’ll take the toddler for a walk after I pick him up, how about that.
Tomorrow I have another day to myself and I’m going to begin the Battle of the Bilge. Wish me luck.
