This Saturday edition of 500 Things is brought to you by the stomach flu which had me out of commission most of the week. So (so) glad to be back. Let’s get to it:
This is a list about my dad, who is pretty great. (psst: Father’s Day is tomorrow.) My dad is the reason I think I can do anything, even after stumbling my way through my early (okay and mid) twenties like a baby elephant in a china shop. The thing about my dad is that he makes everything look easy. Here’s just ten of them:
Eating the same thing for lunch for a decade.1
Being an expert in his field of work.
Working from home before it was cool.
Leading as a Marine Corps infantry officer.
Getting an electrical engineering degree from Carnegie Mellon.
Training as a licensed private pilot.
Finishing eleven 100 mile races and dozens of shorter ultramarathons.
Getting up at o’dark thirty to run all those training miles.
Never having a sweatpants day (ever).
Always supporting me.
He’s kind of a nut. He’s more than kind of awesome. (Hi, Dad. I love you. Happy You Day.)
Everyone else, I’ll see you next week with our next list.
Love,
Amy
Really. Ham and salami sandwich, microwaved for 3 seconds. Red delicious apple. Blueberry bagel with butter. Two oreo cookies. Maybe a handful of chips or pretzels. He can correct me on the time duration or contents. This ended when he decided to go lower carb in 2012 or so but I’m sure he’s still awfully consistent.
A couple of corrections: the sandwich was microwaved for 20 seconds, and I have finished 13 100-mile races.
We're heading to Huntsville Thursday! Your dad is incredibly disciplined but flexible at the same time. He makes a pretty great cousin too ❤️
